If Pandemic Legacy has taught us anything, it’s that just when you think you’re on top of things, something else crops up. In this case: Omicron.
The Melbourne Meeples Committee has been poring over the latest health advice on the Omicron surge, COVID-safe regulations and requirements for events and, most importantly in this case, ticket sales and feedback from members and Meeplecon fans.
While it would have been possible to run our postponed MeepleCon 21 in the last weekend of January, it has become clear through feedback, ticket sales and requests for ticket refunds that not enough people are comfortable attending a major event at this time. Meeplecon is a significant event from a cost perspective and as we are a small not-for-profit, we simply cannot put the organisation’s financial future at risk by pressing ahead.
Given the time of year, the decision has been made (with very heavy hearts) to cancel Meeplecon 2021, rather than postpone further. We will, instead, look to OzBunnyCon 2022 at Easter this year and Meeplecon 2022 in December.
All those who had purchased tickets will receive a refund from Eventbrite and we thank you whole-heartedly for your support.
To our Meeplecon venue, Batman Royale, our traders and our Event Sponsors, Mind Games Northcote and Melbourne. Thank you so much for your flexibility, your understanding and your support.
As mentioned, we do plan to hold OzBunnyCon 2022 this Easter, and will confirm details closer to the time.
In the meantime, our fortnightly Sunday NSEG meetups at The Croxton Park Hotel in Thornbury will continue, adhering to the latest COVID-safe guidelines. Check out the details at our website. And if you are not already, find and follow us on facebook and twitter.
